Multi-Aircraft Networked Tracking Architecture (WPAFB/Synetics)

The objectives of this research study were to investigate the potential benefits of a new distributed tracking method for multiple aircraft sharing target track estimates. The particular distributed tracking method of interest was the net information approach (NIA), an information-sharing method related to the federated filter method developed earlier by Integrity Systems. Under subcontract to Synetics Corporation, Integrity Systems developed the simulation testbed for a distributed track fusion study, including multi-platform, multi-sensor, and multi-target features. ISI designed and implemented distributed track fusion algorithms based on the NIA method, as well as report and track association algorithms for local and global matching. ISI also developed postprocessing methods and software tools to evaluate distributed tracker performance in various multi-platform, musti-target engagement scenarios.
